Derek served as an Electro-Mechanical Technician on the Minuteman III ICBMs in the United States Air Force before going into law enforcement.

Derek served as a Detentions Deputy, Court Security Deputy, Patrol Deputy, Undercover Narcotics Detective, Patrol Officer, Street Crimes Detective, Field Training Operator, SWAT Operator, K-9 Handler, Detective and was attached to an FBI lead joint coalition targeting organized crime and human trafficking.

Derek medically retired as a Master Police Officer in 2019 with over 22 years of diverse street and tactical focused experience. Derek now focuses on officer survival by training and equipping our nation's law enforcement officers full time.

Derek has been teaching his hit O.O.D.A. Loop based Officer Survival seminars to law enforcement officers across the country since 2012 and Emergency Casualty Care for law enforcement since 2015. Rally Point Training & Consulting is a Recognized Educational Provider by the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care and Derek is an authorized instructor for Stop the Bleed.

Derek is a published author with his articles on officer survival and training published in Police Magazine and Tactical Solutions Magazine.

"Duke" served as a Corporal attached to the 2nd Battalion 3rd Marine Golf Co in the United States Marine Corps. His duties included serving as a Rifleman, a COXSWAIN (zodiac driver) for amphibious raids while attached to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and as a certified Scout Swimmer. "Duke" fought in the ground was in Afghanistan during the Global War on Terrorism before returning home and becoming a police officer.

"Duke" is currently assigned to his department's regional drug task force where he works as an Undercover Narcotics Detective. "Duke" is an experience K-9 Agitator, an ALERRT Instructor, a Firearms Instructor and is an Element Leader on his SWAT Team.
